Back on the blogging

It's been 17 days since my last post and I've gotten some things done, but just haven't had time to upload them. Hopefully I remember them all at this point, but here goes a list of them:

- Got one estimate on paving the vacant lot --> $7,000ish for the part that I own now and $11,000ish for the entire grass area if I bought the rest from my neighbor (which I'm not sure is possible without also buying the building next door).  Other things I learned are that I might not be able to get as many cars as I thought with the turning radii needed; he said 4-6 cars, but I'm still calling BS on that; that gravel isn't allowed in the City; that MSD would most likely make me put in drainage on any parking because it slopes towards the alley; sounds like I'd need even more permits for scrapping the topsoil off so that I could lay the gravel base. Bottom line is that it's out of my price range for now. (For the record I think it would fit nicely into the Brewery District Master Plan that just got passed yesterday)

- Got an estimate on tuckpointing the back and side of the building ---> $15,000 to $20,000ish because of all of the labor involved. He told me that it's probably best for me to do myself over time. My dad and I started on a small section of the back wall last weekend. Another post will detail this work.

- Cleaned out all of the garbage from upstairs from the flooring. After a few issues with getting the garbage man to take my old flooring, it's gone and I've moved the tools that I had been tripping on into the 2nd floor apartment. Now I'm ready to get an estimate on refinishing the flooring and start tearing up the kitchen and back hallway.

- Tore up the front hallway and found a surprise. I found the old landing from the original steps between the current hallway floor and the ceiling of the second floor. After having a lot of trouble with the plywood in the hallway, my dad came and helped me finish taking it up and re-solidifying the subfloor. Another post will show pictures.

- Called Cincy Bell Fioptics back to see if they are done "engineering" a way to get it to my building. They're on vacation I found out, so better luck next week. Also was informed that the past landlord had a block on the building from getting cable from Time Warner. Is this America still? That's just wrong. When I called to get the block removed, I was informed that it's not a block that's the problem. It's that there are two people with the cable still in their names in the unit that I'm living in and in my maintenance man's unit. Apparently two different people that we've never heard of are still paying for service at these locations. Just one more mystery to solve. So I'm tempted to try and tap into free internet/cable, but I'm still trying to figure out all the stray cabling throughout my building. Do I need a modem in order to get it to work even if that's the case? Until I get this figured out, I'm living on an internet-less island.

-  My mom cleaned my apartment head to toe. And trust me no one cleans better than my mom. After my dad and I walked in last weekend after tuckpointing, the room just sparkled and was brighter. Amazing stuff and I'm really grateful that I have such great parents.
