Peeling back the layers

Yesterday a buddy of mine, Kevin Wolf, came down to help me tear up the indoor/outdoor carpet that was through out the apartment. My intention was to rip up the carpet and make sure that the subfloor beneath would be level enough to run snap-together floating laminate hardwood flooring over top. So we got to work taking the carpet out of the big back bedroom. After taking it out, and scrapping the bubbling linoleum off the top (probably overkill in hindsight), here is what it looks like.

From there we moved to the front living room, and did the same thing. But over the course of taking up the carpet, Kevin got curious. Even though it had only been my intent to stop a the subfloor, Kevin kept pressing my to see what was underneath. It wasn't until the front living room where the sub-floor was deteriorating particle board that I finally said "Let's see". After the first test patch, we slowly uncovered a whole room of hardwood that should be beautiful once its refinished.

The hardwood floor dramatically changes the feel of the room, and after seeing how good they are in the living room. I'm going to continue to uncover them in the front bedroom and hallways for sure. The back bedroom that we took the carpet off of has at least 2 layers of subfloor on top of them and judging from the areas near the radiators they're more likely to have a little water damage. I still think I'm going to try it there, but it's going to be the most work.

looks awesome! so exciting that there is hardwood underneath - cheaper to refinish than to get new flooring (at least that's what hours of watching the DIY Network has taught me).
-I also like how you made a note about the reserved spot for the photo still on your flip phone haha

Killer find! Those will be really cool once you get them sealed.
