So the telephone threw off all of those pretty plan I made and I decided to wing it. I started by estimating where the lot line was and measuring 2 feet away towards the rest of my lot. I put up a tight string line on stakes and set off to dig my holes, starting with the corner post.
With the corner post in, I readjusted my string line to go from that spot then measured roughly 12 feet down the line for my second post (my skids are 12 feet long).
And boy they just shot out of the ground from there.
But then right what I was getting cocky (and tired) I started to hit a lot more rocks than the other holes. Like an old foundation/brick wall, so I'd take out one stone then hit another right away. It might not be surprising since I was getting closer to my building and at one time there had been something built off the back (stables or something as I recall from the insurance maps)
I didn't get that far until I hit this baby. It seems to be the drainage tile from the downspouts of my building on their way to the sewer. Luckily I didn't crack it in the process.
So this is where I stopped and will remain stalled until I figure out what to do. I'm debating in my head whether to just adjust the angle of my fence so that I can lay the post along side of the pipe or either extend/shorten my fence so that the post doesn't land on the pipe. I'm going to try and find some outside wisdom as well. Stay tuned.
