Hop bed prep and fence strengthening

So I realize that I didn't put up some pictures from the fall after I strengthened the fence with the diagonal supports, so here's a look at what I did.

It looks great with the green green grass right? I just used bricks to support the bottom half because it was easier and cheaper than buying more railing dowels.

Before the winter got here as I was cutting the grass for the last time of the fall, I took the opportunity to start composting for my hops bed. I formed a pile of grass clippings along the bottom of the fence, and then also added fall leaves, straw left over from my parents' neighbor's Halloween decorations, leftover ashed from a fire that I had to get rid of an accumulation of sticks and logs, and then, to make it even richer for the plants, chicken shit from my uncle's chickens. I also threw some banana peels and pineapple husks out there over the winter as I began to use it as compose pile/garbage disposal. All winter it brewed and decomposed.

Now that it's finally starting to warm up. I'm breaking it up and adding some more of my uncle's chicken shit that he's composted over the winter. Pure black gold.

My hop plants have been ordered (which I'll describe in another post) a couple days ago and should get here by the end of next week. When they get here, I'm going to grow them indoors for a couple weeks until frost is less likely outside, then I'll transplant them.

Once the plants are in the ground I'll need to put up the cabling for them to train around. I also need to strengthen one of the lower fence skids that hasn't stayed secure (I think one of the neighborhood kids might have tried to climb the fence and cracked it).

So glad spring is here; the winter was brutally cold and the record amounts of snow didn't help. (I'll try to post what few pictures I have from the winter soon too)
